Let's take a trip down memory lane, shall we? Today marks the 4-year and 1-day anniversary of my very first viral video.
@jennieberrie 4 Years Ago, the Discman Skipping Struggles Went Viral and My Notifications Exploded. To my OG friends, can you believe it's been 4 years since THAT video? The one that made me fall head over heels for TikTok and gave me my first taste of internet fame, even if it only lasted 3 shockingly short days To celebrate, I recreated the look from the video - pajama pants and all! Finding those exact ones was a whole other side quest. A whole weekend of digging through closet after closet just to recapture that iconic look. And guess what? It's technically been 4 years and 1 day since the video went viral. That video definitely resonated with all the Millennials and Gen Xers out there who remember the discman struggles. Who hasn't gotten their headphones yanked out a million times, or pretended to be our own suspension system while playing CDs in the car? Anyway, here's to nostalgia and viral moments, fleeting as they may be. #nostalgia #discman #asian #throwback #over40 #music #dance #childhood #skip #eldermillenial #genx #90s #TikTokMemories #anniversary #DiscmanNightmares #NeverForgetTheStruggle #StillGotThe4YearOldPajamaPants β¬ original sound - JennJenn
The Discwoman Skit! Yep, back before the pandemic even crossed our minds, this little skit about the struggles of elder millennials using a discman launched me into the wonderful world of viral content creation (and trust me, it was a whole new world back then!).
For those who might be too young to remember (Gen Z, I'm looking at you!), the discman was this bulky, sometimes brightly colored music player that used β gasp! β physical discs. Yes, actual CDs that you had to hold onto for dear life because even the slightest bump could send your favorite song into a chaotic symphony of skips and repeats.
The Discwoman Struggles Were Real
The skit itself was a hilarious (and relatable, I might add) portrayal of the daily struggles we elder millennials faced with our trusty discmen. Remember having to be your own personal suspension system while walking or, worse, driving? One wrong move and goodbye coherent listening experience!
Looking back, it's amazing how something so simple could resonate with so many people. But hey, that's the power of nostalgia, right?
A Blast from the Past
Recreating this video after all these years was a lot of fun. It brought back some hilarious memories and a whole lot of appreciation for the convenience of streaming services (seriously, bless them!).
